Hello. My name is Chechi Amah, and I am a digital designer and creative coder from Los Angeles, California. I am 19 years old, and I am also a student. When focusing on something other than my studies, I run a design service called Raspy Giraffe, where I make things using p5.js and Processing. I am also a trained UX designer and earned my certificate in December 2021. As a result, I am proficient in using all Adobe programs (especially Adobe XD) and various other coding languages like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Having a community filled with so many different people with this topic as a commonality or working toward a similar learning goal strengthens my experience. There is unspoken solidarity in a space made for creativity.
I plan to cultivate a similar sense of community with the projects I take on.
I would have liked to see more of other people’s side projects and passion projects. I feel like that seeps into the work done in the class as it gives context.
I enjoyed learning about geomancy because it was more interactive. However, I would have wanted to do more cellular simulations/visualizations and first-person games.
Best Memory: Having the opportunity to get to know people in the breakout groups every week and seeing their projects. \nWorst Memory: Weaving with paper in the first class. I did not have construction paper, so I improvised and worked slower than anticipated.
Felt lost: I felt the most lost when I had to narrow down the ideas I had come up with for the homework and implement them.
Felt creative: I felt the most creative in this class after getting the weekly homework prompts. They were broad enough to give me wiggle room but specific enough to offer some direction.
As someone who is just starting, working with people with careers I see myself pursuing one day was a great glimpse into the future. I plan to keep in contact and collaborate with my peers.
